Of Mice and Men: The Importance of A Close Friendship Between Two People

The story Of Mice and Men is one of the most well known novels
throughout the world. This very popular book is a favorite of many people. So
many people can remember the name Lennie. I will explain some of the important
factors as well as details in this story.

One of the more memorable characters is definitely George Milton. He is
Lennie's best friend. George is the kind of guy who will protect Lennie from
anybody. He is a nice guy as long as you are nice to him and Lennie.

George's best friend Lennie is probably the most memorable character in
the book. His full name is Leonard Small. Which could mean he is strong as a
lion but slow, as in dumb. One thing about Lennie Is the fact that every animal
he touches he usually kills it. The reason he did this is the fact that he did
not know his own strength.

Curley, the bosses' son is a bully. He does not like Lennie because
Lennie is big. Curley doesn't like big people because he is small himself. He
believes he can boss people around because he is the bosses' son. His wife is
a flirt. She wants everybody at the Ranch. Curley doesn't like that so he
tries to keep her in the house.

Slim is like the head of the ranch because he knows what is going on and
everybody likes him. He is the kind of guy you would want as a friend. He is
called a Jerkline skinner. He is a person that is very easy to get along with.
So he becomes one of George's good friends.

The saying "The need for social companionship is a basic urge common to
all mean and deserves consideration as a fundamental aspect of life." Because
people need friends to get along in life. Without friend's life would be
pointless. You could have no fun in life.

The saying "The tragedy of the novel is that the two are so perfectly
connected that when one is destroyed the other is automatically destroyed."
When Lennie is destroyed George in a way is destroyed as well. Without Lennie,
George has nobody to have and fun or laugh with. George has been with Lennie
for a long time. So when Lennie is gone George must go on along without him.
It must be bad because now there is nothing he can do.

The saying "The ability of man to dream must rely directly upon having
someone to share that dream with." Someone cannot dream unless there is someone
to share the dream with. What is the point of having dreams if you have no one
to share them with. I would think that you would need to share the dream with
other people if it is ever going to be good.

The shooting of Candy's old blind dog shows a little bit into the future
with the way that Lennie is going to die. They both get shot in the back of the
head. Which gives them no pain. Which is what both of their owners wanted for
them. So in all that is a good way for them to die.

The story tries to explaining the importance of a close friendship or
relationship between two people. So during the story Steinbach goes into detail
about how George and Lennie get along and like each other. By the end of the
story you know much about the way the two men's friendship is. So you can
pretty much understand why George shoots Lennie in the end. It saves Lennie
Much pain. Although it just about kills George himself.
